README ====== The software and installation instructions assume a Windows-based system. However, we understand that not everyone will have such a setup. While the software functions in much the same way on all operating systems, the installation processes will be slightly different. Mac OS X users -------------- For your convenience, binaries for Mac OS X have been included inside the /Mac_software folder for the following programs: PROJ / GEOS (prerequisites for installing PostgreSQL and PostGIS) PROJ_Framework-4.6.0-1.dmg GEOS_Framework-3.0.0-2.dmg ProtgreSQL PostgreSQL-8.3.1-3.dmg PostGIS PostGIS-1.3.3-1.dmg pgAdmin pgadmin3-1.8.2.dmg Google Earth GoogleEarthMac.dmg More information ---------------- The GeoServer binary distribution is contained locally in the /software directory. The file name is geoserver-1.6.3-where-bin.zip. Please extract this to your hard drive. From a terminal, go to the "geoserver" directory where you expanded the archive. Run "/bin/startup.sh" to start GeoServer. You can configure the GeoServer from a web browser at http://localhost:8080/geoserver . Note: Make sure that the JAVA_HOME environment variable is set.
